01/08/08 - I was hoping not to ever replicate the disaster of 2006, but I have had yet another poor week of work. Just one day of salad packing, of which I got to be supervisor for, probably because everyone else has taken a bit of common sense and given up. I really need to step up a little, I got quite a few interviews a couple of years ago, it was just the interviews themselves which were bad. But now I'm more confident, they shouldn't be too hard to pass. It's just trying to keep motivated to look for work though, as SBE took away some of that morale because they apparently have a policy that they 'don't rehire people'.

The Palmers Green Sunday School has closed for the summer, as teachers and students will be coming and going during the holidays. We had just a single group class this week, as there were so few of us. I called Victoria this week, after having not called her for a while. She was wondering what had happened to me, and thought I was still ill from when I left in June. We spoke for almost an hour on Monday, then I spoke with her and a couple of other people again when I called yesterday. I do miss being there, and I hear everyone there misses me too...

Also this week, I've been trying to change my webhost from GLXHost to GoDaddy. My GLXHost account has suddenly become overdrawn in memory by 250 MB, which comes inconvieniently during The Sims 2: Big Brother 7. There's no way I'm paying for their 2 GB accounts, especially when I can get much more memory for less with GoDaddy, though I worry there are less features there than GLXHost. And lastly, there was a 12% lunar eclipse over Kent at 10:16am today, which you can see photos of on the Photography site...

08/08/08 - With a whole week of absolutely no work, I've now started sending CVs and job applications out on a hard-core level. It's getting seriously tiring now, nobody will even give me an interview because I 'don't have the experience' for a basic job, which should be a provider of experience in that field anyway. I guess I'm mostly upset at not getting the job with Alliance and Leceister this week, which has the kind of office environment I deserve to be working in...

So to keep me throughly busy whilst I'm not job hunting, I've been trying to make the full switch between my webhosts, though I'm not making much progress at the moment. It takes a lot of time and effort transferring webhosts, but I was suprised at how fast I managed to sort and redesign the Photography Section... No Palmers Green this week, so I went to the Ashford Baptists Church, where they had their annual Holiday Club. Unfortunately the Palmers Green church haven't been able to organise their Fun Day this year.

The Olympics started today, I still remember the day I saw the Olympic Torch Relay with Samuel on an extremely wet day at KLCC. The ceremony was good, but I was suprised to hear that Brunei are not in the Olympics, as they didn't register their two athletes that were supposed to be in the games. It'll certainly be an interesting Olympics, though I think I'll take more interest in the league tables, and viewing the progress of the countries I know and visited, rather than watch any of the games themselves...

15/08/08 - Another week passes without work. It's a good job I manage my money well, saving in the UK and budgeting in Malaysia. I still have a fair bit left to keep me going, but I don't know how long that will last. I've been round Canterbury and Sevenoaks this week looking for jobs. Though it's nice that agencies take you seriously in Sevenoaks (unlike Ashford), none of them there would take me on as I lived so far away. As for Canterbury, I don't know if I'll get anything from there. I can't believe how many interviews I got two years ago, and now I can't get any. What am I doing wrong?

I tried my very hardest this week to get back with SBE, who I worked with last year, but it really, strictly is their policy that they don't rehire. I really don't see the initiative in it, as they've been looking for new employees for weeks, and they're supposed to be doubling the size of the place next year too. I guess that's how French companies do their business. I talked to my Tamil friend, Elizabeth, about it, and she says I should move on from these factory jobs anyway. She's right, I really should...

The Palmers Green church have a trip to Great Yarmouth next Saturday, all the way in Norfolk, but, as usual, when nothing exciting happens, two things come at once. Also next Saturday is James Wilson's annual summer house party. I may try to do both, or atleast almost die trying. But this Saturday (tomorrow), it's the Taman Wahyu churches fifth anniversary. It's the third anniversary I've missed, but it's not easy when it's hosted during British Summer Time.

I recently looked on Google Earth and noticed that they've finally updated the aerial photos of Kuala Lumpur, and have put a lot of northern Selangor in hi-res too. Only problem is, the west half of KL is now covered in clouds (see Photography). Do they not check local weather forecasts before taking these photos? I guess we'll have to wait another few years before we get the whole of KL and Selangor looking up to standard...

22/08/08 - Still no work, but things have looked a little more promising this week. I had a very good job interview at Wilkinsons earlier in the week; it annoys me that I got so many interviews two years without passing any, but now I know how to do well in them, I can't get any. I've also had interest from the local bowling alley for work, an agency in Maidstone may get me some Saturday work at a call centre, doing inbound calls this time, and a lady at Berry Recruitment took a lot of interest in my CV, and will try and get me a position at the Mission Aviation Fellowship.

I've also had a look at TEFL jobs online, but most companies want you to do their courses before they'll give you a job, even though I've already passed the CELTA, which is said to be much better than TEFL, as you actually do teaching. I think the most irritating thing I've found about not working the past few weeks, is the fact that I'm not signed up to Job Seeker's Allowance. Despite that, I'm still just surviving on my savings, having barely worked the past nine months, six of which was studying in Malaysia; don't I save my money well.

Despite no work, atleast I have a fun weekend coming up, and so I should, it being Ranjita's birthday today; I called her yesterday and wished her well. Olivia has been a nice reminder today of what it's like being loved by a child, it's been a bit boring without Ranjita lately. I'm staying at Prathees' house tonight, so I can get to the Palmers Green church early tomorrow morning, as we have a church outing to Great Yarmouth. Then following that, I'll be going all the way back to Ashford to go to James Wilson's annual house party...

29/08/08 - Still another whole workless week, but atleast I had a nice weekend, and got to do everything I wanted. I went to Great Yarmouth with the Palmers Green church, which was fun, though family days aren't quite as fun without a family. I was thinking of Ranjita a lot throughout the day, as she made the church outings with the Taman Wahyu church a lot more fun. Atleast Sippa was there to keep me entertained and socially occupied, and she's the only child I can practice Tamil with at the moment.

After a long day at the beach, I still managed to go to James Wilson's House Party, which seem to be getting quieter every year, but this year clashed with Reading festival and the Ashford Church's Youth Camp. My brother, Stuart, got pretty drunk; I think it's the first time I've seen him drunk, as I've never seen him do anything stupid before, like pouring parafine onto a fire, and having a caning match with chopsticks with his mate, Rick. If he was going to screw up his arm, atleast I was there to witness it...

And after a very long Saturday, I was ill on Sunday, and slept most the day, though I did try my best to watch the Olympic Closing Ceremony. It was a shame I didn't get to see the celebrations and decorations in London, though my parents did! I also managed to catch the last part of the Mark Beaumonth documentary, the guy who cycled round the world, which I did one of my CELTA lessons; shame I missed the other parts though. And lastly this week, I met a Christian called Eymr, who my mother worked at Sainsburys with. It was very interesting to meet someone with a similar religious background as me, though I can't say I've been blacklisted by Jehovah Witnesses for trying to convert them...
