05/09/08 - After over a month of not working, I've finally got myself some temporary work, just when I had finally bothered to sign up to Job Seeker's; typical! My new job, in Lenham, is working for a factory that distributes plumbing hardware, mostly to B&Q. For my first two days, I was put in one warehouse where I had to do a lot of heavy work, carrying four metre long pipes, and using electronic trolleys (which are a lot of fun). Fortunately I only had two days of that, and I'm now doing picking and packing, which is much easier. Only bad thing was having to work early mornings, I do not like having to wake up at 4:50am! The Sims 2: Big Brother 7 ended last week, and Big Brother UK 9 ended tonight (Rachel won?). As said in my Closing Statement, I'm now done with The Sims: Big Brother, not just because of the workload and commitment it takes, but I'm also out of ideas, which is why I put them all into this last, big series, which has been about two years in the making. It'll definitely be better for me to focus on pre-recorded material, then I won't have to care about deadlines, though I would like to get as much done with media in The Sims 2, before The Sims 3 comes out in February. I find this such early release of The Sims 3 by EA Games extremely sly. Maxis were a very honest and worthy company with their products, which is probably why they had financial trouble, which EA pulled them out of with a takeover, but has turned their wonderful title into a horrid, money making rip-off. Now EA feel they can't go six months without the release of a major Sims title. I am looking forward to The Sims 3, but I don't want the game to be full of errors because the producers haven't had time to fully test the game. EA released Spore today, but I guess with that game being about three to four years in the making, nobody really cares about it... So, other than work, and another week at Palmers Green, not much has happened this week. The week before, the Ashford Baptist Church had their Youth Camp. It looked pretty good, from all the photos that have been uploaded onto Facebook, but I don't know how I would have found it. I think I was invited, but I'm so seldom with the Ashford church that I don't feel I'd fit in. But it clashed with the Palmers Green trip, so never mind. Going to a wedding tomorrow, should be fun... 12/09/08 - As Sod's Law usually states, you wait ages for something, then two things come at once, well it's happened again this week. Just when I've finally gotten settled into my current job with one agency, another agency calls me and offers me a job in another warehouse, just down the road from where I'm working. Irritatingly enough, they offered me work with longer hours and better pay, but only a short term contract, whereas my current job has a longer one. I decided to stick with my current job to be loyal to the agency, who are trying to get me a job with the Mission Aviation Fellowship. I just should have quit both, considering the world was supposed to end on Wednesday. All they did was turn the machine on, they're not supposed to be firing any molecules for another month, and some scientists are saying that the affects of the experiment won't show for another four years (which ironically coincides with 2012, when most people think the world will really end). They say religion and it's practices are what is causing all the problems in the world, such as war, yet nobody ever blames the scientists that develop weapons of war etc. Went to a wedding on Saturday, this past week, of Heather and Michael (relatives on my father's side), it's a shame how seldom I get to see them. I met a German guy at Palmers Green on Sunday, who came with his Tamil wife and family to our church, it was really interesting meeting them. I made my first call to Malaysia for a while this week too, and heard that Chino, who I used to regularly visit at Laksamana, has had all her teeth removed. I did notice when I saw her this year how bad her teeth were; I don't know if it happened due to neglect or some kind of infection, as most kids I know out there have lovely sets of teeth... My bicycle received a severe puncture to the front tyre on Wednesday, which meant I had to take the bus to the station for work the past couple of days, which I haven't done in a long time in the UK, but with fares being five times more compared to Malaysia for not nearly as long a journey, it's no suprise... And finally for this week, I'm pretty shocked that Sentana Sports has bought the rights to all the major English football games, even the highlights. Kind of kills the patriotism of international matches, but fortunately I stopped following the game, or business, a long while ago... 19/09/08 - I've been living on my own the most of this past week, and still have another two to myself. My parents have gone to South Africa for about two and a half weeks, so it's me, home alone, left to fend for myself. It's been getting a little chilly, and I learnt how to turn the heating on properly after a couple of days, but atleast I saved a little on the bills. The warehouse job is going fine at the moment, it's better than nothing, being locked up all day at home alone would drive me absolutely mad. Despite the full time work, Tesco, which is two minutes walk from my house, have offered me a part time position, something I've long been waiting for. Unfortunately, of the ten shifts they have, only two of them don't contain hours on a Sunday, so I've got about a 20% chance of getting a job there. Despite how much I want to work at Tesco, I'm not permanently giving up my Sunday's, especially as Sunday School started again this past week. We only had a group class, but proper classes don't start till week after next, which is convienient, as I'll be going to a family Christening this coming Sunday, which you can find out more about next week... 26/09/08 - Why is it that pessimism seems to be my only way through life? I mope that I only had a 20% chance of getting the part time job at Tesco, and I got it! I'll be doing ten hours a week, over three days, on the checkouts. And that goes on top of my full time job at Marley, the Lenham Plumbing Warehouse, which is forty hours, so I'll be doing fifty hours a week! I did quiz my agency this week about why some other agency staff from Maidstone were getting a higher wage than me; I've forgotten their excuse was, but minimum wage goes up next Wednesday (October 1st), so I'll just let it pass... As I said last week, I went to a family Christening of my newest cousin, Oliver, who's about ten months old now. I missed the Christening a few years ago of my other cousins, and Oliver's older siblings, Thomas and Lucy. I also got to meet my brother's girlfriend, Karen. My parents aren't impressed that the whole family have met her before they've had the chance. Again, it's a shame how seldom I get to see my extended family (it was my father's side at the wedding a couple of weeks ago, mother's side this past week). So, as the Western world falls into chaos, with the Wall Street collapse and the credit crunch, I'm doing fairly well for myself. Two jobs, though I'd do anything to kill having to commute by train, even if it's only two stops, but it's just annoying having to plan things via what the train timetables say. Went to an open day at Kent County Council today, and will be attending an Open Day at Saga in Folkestone on Monday (that'll mean more commuting!), so hopefully something better will come my way, but hopefully I'll get to keep my beloveded job at Tesco...
